Thanks for waiting my next tip about how to deal with READING COMPREHENSION section in English Tests!
As we can conclude from my previous posting about the three main techniques on how to deal with READING section, now it’s time to summary and construct the best strategy in order to deal with the READING COMPREHENSION section. I jot down the strategy for READING in the form of “1, 2, and 3” step so that you can easily do this strategy comprehensively and precisely.
STRATEGIES TO DO READING COMPREHENSION SECTION:
- Your eyes should be directed first on the question and comprehend it!!
-> YA!! The very first thing that is inexorably important for you to start is to look at the question first. READ it! COMPREHEND it!! Read the question carefully and you have got to understand what the question is essentially about. Does it ask about WHO? WHEN? WHERE? and sort of. This is the key to finding the correct answer.
- Find the keywords of the question!!
-> That’s why I told ya not to do the (silly) skimming, Come on! You can find the precise answer faster rather than wasting your time looking at the words that are not easily understandable making your headache even more. J Thus, the keywords are extremely important to be identified so that we can exactly know what this test asks us to do! If you are not similar to the term “keyword” let me give you a brief example of some questions and the following keywords:
- “What is the main idea of the passage”, “What is the text about?”, “What is the passage about?” Keywords: “THE TEXT”, “ABOUT”
-“What can be inferred about John F.Kennedy?” Keywords: “John F. Kennedy”
Be careful in determining the keywords due to the fact that if you miss the essential keywords will lead you to the FALSE answer!
- Now, you are ready to reveal the correct answer!!
-> Yes, this is the final step of your journey to open the mysterious correct answer regarding the fact that you have the “KEY’ called “KEYWORDS” in your hand J
The final step to do the READING section is by FINDING THE KEYWORDS MATCHED ON THE PASSAGE! As I told you, you have the key (make sure that the key is correct first, dude!) then you need to find the appropriate door! Find the keywords you have gotten from the questions on the passage. Believe me you can find it there! if you can’t, there are 2 options whether you are having the wrong keywords or the words that you are looking for are undercover, meaning that they are using other words to express the same meaning in the clause or sentence. FINALLY, you need to read the whole sentence and understand it so that you can match the meaning with the correct option that have been waiting for you since the beginning of the test!! BINGO!!!!!!
